Breast Enlargement
Women
with small
or underdeveloped breasts
who wish to enhance their appearance may choose
to have a procedure called breast
augmentation mammoplasty.
A fuller body contour can be safely achieved through
the placement of implants directly under the breast
tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. Implants
that are filled with saline or salt-water are
now being used for breast augmentation procedures.
At The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, the
surgeon selects a saline implant correct for your
body size and lifestyle.
Women
have reported a high degree of satisfaction with
these implants.
Small incisions
are made so that the implant can be inserted.
These small incisions may be made in the crease
under the breast or under the nipple. The implant
is then filled with saline to achieve the desired
size and shape of the breast. The surgery can
be performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia
and takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
After
your procedure,
the physicians at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic
Surgery may offer a visit to your
home by a plastic surgery nurse, trained to assist
in your recovery. Most patients can return to
work within 5-6 days following surgery. Sutures
are removed in 7 to ten days and your surgeon
may recommend a surgical support bra. Exercise
and other strenuous activities may be resumed
in about one month.
Breast Lift
As
a woman ages, her skin loses some elasticity,
causing the breast to sag under the pull of gravity.
Pregnancy can cause the breast to lose firmness
and volume. A breast lift, or Mastopexy, is a
procedure for safely lifting the sagging breast.
In the procedure, excess skin is removed and the
nipple raised to a higher position. The breast
skin is reshaped and tailored to create a more
youthful breast. For better results, your
surgeon may recommend the use of saline breast
implants along with the mastopexy procedure.
Even though this surgery does
not affect future pregnancies or breast feeding,
the results may not be as long lasting. Women
who are planning pregnancies may wish to postpone
this procedure. The surgery can be performed as
an outpatient and takes approximately 2-3 hours
to complete. Most patients can return to work
within 4-5 days following surgery. After your
procedure the physicians at The Aesthetic Center
for Plastic Surgery may offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse,
trained to assist in your recovery.
Breast Reduction
The weight
from very large breasts can cause a variety of
problems including back and neck pain,
skin irritation and breathing difficulty. Breast
reduction is usually performed to correct a medical
problem and may be
covered by health insurance. The procedure
removes fat, tissue, and excess skin from the
breast, making the breast smaller, lighter, and
firmer. The nipple is also repositioned in proportion
to the new breast size.
It
is recommended that the breast be fully developed
before surgery is performed. However, if
large breasts are causing serious problems, a
surgeon may recommend this procedure for younger
patients. Patients should keep in mind that breast
reduction should be postponed for women planning
to breast feed. Surgery takes about 3-5 hours
under general anesthesia and recovery is about
7-10 days.
After your procedure the physicians
at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery may
offer a visit to your home by a
plastic surgery nurse, trained to assist in your
recovery. For several weeks following surgery
you will be wearing
a support bra to reduce swelling and bruising.
After this time you
will be able to select bras that enhance your
new look. Most women can return to work
in about two weeks but should avoid lifting or
strenuous exercise for the next three to 4 weeks.
